Not sure I agree…Lately I’ve become really bored with skinny jeans, or skinny anything. It’s become an everyday affair, with everybody, whatever shape, size or age, abusing the skinny look. And when I pull a look together, often I’m dressed the same way as my 12 year old daughter! Somehow that doesn’t feel right. It was only in the 60’s that mothers and daughters started dressing differently, because up to then, women wore exactly what their mothers did, and looked much older. But now we seem to wear pretty much the same things again and maybe that’s not such a good thing again.
When I see a photograph of my mom at 18, she looks 30, because of the sophisticated way of dressing, the hairstyles and make-up at the time. Although I don’t want to relive those times, personally I want to differentiate myself from teenager wear, not to wear the same stuff, just more expensive and of better quality! That’s probably the only difference! It’s difficult to find your own path, not too far off common ground, but just enough to feel individualistic.
So I’m slowly changing my denim style, one day, classic 501’s from LEVIS, or wide leg from Gerard Darel, ( that I cut the hems), or flares from MiH, or boyfriend from Zara, and rarely, an old skinny, super comfortable pair from TopShop. Why don’t you leave your comfort zone for a day or two? See how it feels…pretty good I think.
